Egypt Air operates its first flight from Cairo to Manchester, United Kingdom
Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation, and Gareth Bailey, the British Ambassador to Cairo, witnessed today, Saturday, the launch ceremony of EgyptAir’s first flight from Cairo International Airport to Manchester, United Kingdom, on its Boeing B737 800 aircraft - with 120 passengers on board. This comes in light of the Egyptian state’s plan to maximize revenues and increase economic growth rates by stimulating air and tourist traffic arriving in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas, Minister of Civil Aviation, indicated in his speech on this occasion that the re-operation of an airline between Cairo and Manchester confirms the extension of the distinguished cooperation relations between Egypt and Britain, explaining that the beginning of EgyptAir’s flights to Heathrow Airport in London was in 1970, and it witnessed an increase, noteworthy in the number of trips over the past years.
The Minister of Aviation added: By operating the Manchester route, the total number of EgyptAir flights to the United Kingdom will become 20 weekly, with 14 flights to London, 5 flights to Manchester, and a flight from Luxor to Heathrow Airport in London, which gives a special advantage to the company’s customers to travel directly between Cairo and the most important British cities, which are two. London and Manchester.
The Minister of Civil Aviation also affirmed the national company’s keenness to achieve optimal exploitation of its air fleet, expand its airline network, and open new points to many destinations around the world in accordance with the strategy of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which aims to support incoming air traffic to and from Egypt, as this year witnessed the opening of And operating several new lines, such as (Dhaka in Bangladesh - Newark in the United States of America - and today Manchester in England). Soon the New Delhi line in India and lines to many other destinations will be opened, as the national company aims in the current period to cover the largest number of points around the world, attract more customers, and achieve benefits. This is possible through the plan to modernize its air fleet, which contributes to increasing air traffic to Egyptian tourist destinations.
For his part, the British Ambassador expressed in his speech his happiness at the celebration, which reflects the bonds of close cooperation relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, especially in the field of air transport, appreciating the tangible efforts made by the civil aviation sector in various activities, noting the importance of operating this direct line to the city of Manchester. Which contributes to enhancing travel and increasing the volume of trade and tourism exchange between Egypt and Britain.
The British ambassador added that this route is an important step within EgyptAir's continuing efforts to stimulate travel and tourism between the two countries in order to encourage British tourists to visit Egypt, the mother of the world, and learn about the ancient Egyptian civilization.
During the celebration ceremony, Engineer Yehia Zakaria, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EgyptAir Holding Company, presented the company’s shield to the British Ambassador, who thanked and congratulated the Minister of Civil Aviation and the EgyptAir work team for this wonderful achievement.
It is worth noting that EgyptAir distributed souvenirs to all passengers on this flight to celebrate the restart of this route and took souvenir photos with them.
