The Prime Minister of India visits Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Allah Mosque in historic Cairo
Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, received today Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, at Al-Hakim Bi Amr Allah Mosque, on the sidelines of his current official visit to Cairo.
Dr. Mustafa Waziri accompanied the Prime Minister of India and his accompanying delegation on a tour inside the mosque, during which he reviewed the history of the mosque, its historical and archaeological value, and the restoration project carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and the Bohra community, which was completed and opened last February.
After the end of the visit, Dr. Mustafa Waziri was keen to present a souvenir to the Prime Minister of India, which was a model of an ancient Egyptian boat, as an expression of cooperation between Egypt and India, especially in the field of trade since ancient times.
While the Prime Minister of India expressed his great admiration for the mosque and its carved inscriptions on its walls and entrances, and his happiness at visiting this important archaeological mosque.
It is worth noting that the Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Mosque dates back to the Fatimid era and is the fourth oldest surviving university mosque in Egypt, and the second largest archaeological mosque in Cairo after the Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque.
